What should I expect during a physiotherapy session?
Your first appointment will involve an assessment of your abilities and needs. Your physiotherapist will evaluate your medical conditions, function, environment, and safety while discussing your goals. Based on this, a personalised treatment plan will be created.
Subsequent sessions will be treatment-based and may include exercises, outdoor access and walking, hands-on therapy techniques such as massage, and education and advice for managing your recovery.
How many sessions will I need?
The number of sessions will vary depending on your condition and goals. Your physiotherapist will develop a tailored plan to ensure the best outcome for you.
Is physiotherapy covered by insurance?
Physiotherapy may be covered by private health insurance or government-funded schemes like Medicare (Chronic Disease Management – CDM). Please check with your insurer to confirm, or contact us for guidance.
What is a Physiotherapist?
A physiotherapist is a highly trained healthcare professional who helps people restore, maintain, and improve their physical function and mobility. They focus on treating injuries, managing pain, and preventing physical conditions that can limit movement and quality of life.
Physiotherapists use a variety of techniques, including:
• Exercise therapy to build strength, flexibility, and endurance.
• Manual therapy like massage and joint mobilisation to relieve pain and improve mobility.
• Education to help patients understand their condition and promote self-management.
• Specialised treatments, such as restorative care programs, massage, exercised-based therapies and task-specific practice.
• Community access to support you finding your feet and accessing and socialising the community.
Plena’s Physiotherapists work with individuals of all ages in diverse settings, including in their homes, aged care facilities, supporting living accommodation and aim to assist recovery whilst promoting independence.
Do I need a referral to see a physiotherapist?
You can refer yourself for private services. If you anticipate to use funding such as NDIS or Home Care you will require your case manager to send a referral on your behalf. For Chronic Disease Management (CPM) formally Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) your GP will need to complete the paperwork prior to referral.
If you are unsure or require support, reach out to our friendly team.
What should I wear to my physiotherapy appointment?
Comfortable clothes that do not restrict movement and allow for task practice. Good sturdy footwear is required, ideally with laces or a buckle similar to a sport or work shoe.
How soon will I see results?
This depends on your condition, starting baseline and goals. Our experienced physiotherapy team will walk you through your planned program and timeline at your assessment.
Are home visits available for physiotherapy?
Yes, we can see you in your place of residence or preferred location.
